One of the main goals of the interior renovation project was to eliminate the pink/ruby color on the 4-story granite wall and enhance the surrounding walls & surfaces design to reflect an updated, modern look. The 60’ by 60’ wall is a main feature of the building and captures people’s attention immediately, making the older design an eye sore.
Manufacture a wall system using different depths box like structures that would produce shadows and light as the sun past the large glass openings every changing throughout the day.

With over a year of research and requests to construction professionals nationally, there was not one company that was able to reasonably meet the challenges of this project and offer a workable solution other than Engineered Group.
With a project of this magnitude, all options were considered, and all potential challenges were discussed. Should they keep the existing wall or build a new design over it? Could they attach a new structure over the existing wall? And, if so, how could it be done? Should they just repaint the granite wall?
All of these things were considered, on top of figuring out way to minimize the thousands of dollars of demolition, disposal, and landfill costs that were expected. They even considered renovating everything but the wall, but wondered if it would create an aberration from the rest of the project.
They turned to our team here at Engineered Group for a value-engineered solution.

Because the substrate is granite, using a traditional bracket mounting system was not an option. We had to create a mounting system using adhesives that was structurally strong enough to support the weight of the boxes. We tested the top two adhesives recommended by 3M and executed an infield mockup while a 3M ‘s field rep was present. 3M advised either adhesive would suffice. However, because safety was, and is, our highest priority, we used both 3M adhesives on each box/panel.
