01Our history
Engineered Group was established in 2002 by two veterans, Mike DeForest and Mark Ecker, as a solar panel company, and it quickly became one of the top solar companies in the Southeast.
In 2004, multiple hurricanes hit Florida, causing billions of dollars in damage and leaving most homes in need of new roofs. With no roofs to install solar panels on, Mike and Mark reinvented the business around 3M security and solar film, which was approved for hurricane protection at the time. It was just the product they needed to keep the business afloat. With 26 employees and the infrastructure to support its marketing and sales, Engineered Group quickly rose to the top.

Founders
Two servicemen who started the company in 2002, rebuilt it after the 2004 hurricane season, and still run it.
US Navy, 1984 · FAA air traffic controller
Mark joined the US Navy in 1984 and served as an FAA air traffic controller for his five-year commitment. After an honorable discharge, he found his niche in sales and built a very successful career. But, like Mike, he was destined to be an entrepreneur.
US Marine Corps, 1980 · F-4 fighter squadron
Mike joined the US Marine Corps in 1980 and was assigned to an F-4 fighter squadron. After an honorable discharge, he became a police officer while also running his own business. He had always wanted to be an entrepreneur, so he left the police force to follow that dream.
